The Inner Child Work- A Guide To How It Benefits
As an adult juggling between the
mid-life and work crisis, saying that your inner child can help you deal with
your problems might come as a joke to you. But the truth my friend is, that we were all at one time children. And the
child you once were did not just grow up to disappear and be replaced
by a perfect, always responsible adult.
Every problem that you’re facing now
comes with a deep rooted belief from your childhood. You might look as a well
grown adult, but down inside lives a fuming six-year old who trusts no one and
is secretly calling the shots.
Speaking in terms of psychology, there’s
always this part of your unconscious that portrays the child you once were, that marks as a kind of ‘other personality’
when it comes to social interactions, often referred to as the ‘inner child’.
Sounds uncommon. Does it really work?
The Inner
Child Work is more like healing and embracing the child within. It’s often as a
child that we tend to suppress our emotions and the way we feel about certain
things in life. Such beliefs are the kinds that pile on to create the problems
that we face in your adulthood, no matter how naive and crazy that might sound
to you.
Does that mean I’ll start hating my parents?
Working on the inner child isn’t about pointing
all the things your parents did “wrong” and then eventually start hating on
them. Yes, you might spend time
letting your inner child get furious at the parents for what they once did, but
the emotions need to be processed, and often at the level they were created.
All of this
comes with the recognition that you are no longer that child and that you need
to let go of the toxic things feeding on your happiness.
The therapy also helps you recognise
who the adult you is. And with
time, you’ll be open to allowing yourself to feel all anger and sadness that
you once didn’t along with a better understanding that others are humans too.
And humans make mistakes.
Reaching out
to a counselling centre and parenting yourself all over again might
sound a little immature but you’d be amazed to the positivity it will bring to
your life.
No matter what
you’re dealing with in life, there’s always a dark plug from your childhood
that you’ve forgotten to unplug. But as they say, it’s better late than never.
If you think
your life is taking a heavy toll on your happiness, make sure you kick the
problem right from its roots. Amongst an ocean full of therapists, Dr.

enlightenment is a guaranteed one.
